Schools out at our CA home turf, Stanford U., so our friends at Bank Leumi USA have stepped up to host and feed us this month in Palo Alto. Nearly 100 TechAviv CA members; Silicon Valley-based Israeli hi-tech startup founders and investors and invited Israeli executives from Google, Yahoo, Ebay, Cisco etc. are gathering tonight to see and discuss demos from Fixya, Superfish and kaChing. Superfish is taking on the oh-so-sexy challenge of making search visual. There have been valiant efforts in the past but Uli Gal-Oz‘s company is taking the Israeli route and developing a hard core 3D object recognition engine that promises to enable high-accuracy visual matching, browsing, and comparison. The company’s unique IP puts together machine vision, machine learning and advanced search algorithms to enable users to intuitively/visually find similar objects. This is a demo you literally need to see to believe.

kaChing is one addictive social investing site, and holds claim to the prestigious crown of most popular investing app on Facebook. On the site/service anyone can create a fantasy portfolio and try to gain followers. After proving themselves, the very best portfolio managers sell their investment advice to other members. kaChing takes a cut of those transactions. Simple. Elegant. Fun.
